Why re-upholstery?

I worked for a furniture retailer for many years and saw first-hand how many quality old chairs were sent to landfill.

Most were in a poor state of repair but when they are stripped back most frames are in great condition.

I saw an opportunity to rescue, restore and reupholster these discarded pieces and create a handcrafted quality product with a positive environmental outcome.

This prompted me to look into upholstery training options.

Training

I started my upholstery training with Wendy Shorter Interiors in 2017 and completed my AMUSF Diploma with the Upholstery Skills Centre in 2018.

It became obvious to me during my training that I didn't want to just reupholster furniture. I wanted to create, unique, bespoke, statement pieces that complimented the history and origins of the furniture but also reflected my personal style.

Its taken a few years to get there - but that is now what I do!
